Justin Trudeau helps install stone at West Block of Parliament

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau put on a hard hat and safety goggles Wednesday as he marked the completion of masonry work on Parliament Hill's West Block by installing the final stone to a tower's exterior.

Working at Heights Training

January 27, 2016

No later than, April 1, 2017 any worker who may use a fall protection system must successfully complete the Working At Heights Training Program. Local 7 has an approved training provider who will train in this program as well as other safety programs. Classes are now underway. Call Local 7 (613-739-5944) to put your name on the list for training.

Brick & Stone Restoration Apprenticeship Program

May 5th, 2015

This program is designed to give participants more advanced skills in the restoration sector. The restoration sector is currently stating that they have shortages of labour and that there will be growing opportunities in this sector.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) has announced changes to Regulation 297/13: Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training

Regulation changes will come into effect on April 1, 2015. As of that date, workers on construction sites will need to complete a working at heights training program that has been approved by the Chief Prevention Officer before they can work at heights. This training will be valid for three years from the date of completion.

Local 7 encourages all apprentices to register for, and complete the Brick and Stone Apprenticeship Program. This is an accredited program. The program is currently three levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced.
